EGA-UNDP Protected Area Management Workshop held in Tripoli
Tripoli, 06/11/2007 – The United Nations Development Programme in Libya, in association with the Environment General Authority (EGA), is hosting a three day workshop on Protected Area Management in Tripoli for government and non-government staff.
The workshop hopes to review and analyse the existing legislative and policy framework for Protected Area Management (PAM) at the national level, while mobilising various state actors in the process. In cooperation with UNDP’s Sub-Regional Resource Facility for Arab States, the workshop hopes to bring to the fore best practice experiences of successful Protected Area Management initiatives from Libya’s regional neighbours.
On the third day of the workshop, participants will be invited to visit the Msalata Forest, Libya’s primary PAM project, before driving to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Leptis Magna.
By the end of the workshop, UNDP and EGA hope to arrive at a consensual action plan for a comprehensive National Protected Area Management strategy.
The workshop begins on 06/11/2007, and will run for three days in Tripoli’s Bab-il-Bahar Hotel.
