UN in Libya hosts Development Cooperation Group Meeting
On
the 4th February 2010, the United Nations in Libya hosted a
Development Cooperation Group (DCG) meeting at the Radisson
Hotel in Tripoli. The meeting was intended as an opportunity to
promote greater cooperation between development actors operating
in Libya, and to garner feedback from DCG members on UNDP
Libya’s Country Programme 2011-2014.
The Country Programme 2011-2014 is an agreement signed between
the Libyan Government and UNDP Libya and it outlines UNDP’s
strategy and areas of technical cooperation for the period. The
Country Programme document was formulated under the joint
leadership of the General People’s Committee (GPC) for Planning
and Finance, with inputs from UNDP headquarters.
By introducing its draft Country Programme to the DCG, UNDP
Libya was able to benefit from the perspectives of
representatives from other UN agencies, national and
international NGOs, the diplomatic community, World Bank and the
European Commission. It also provided an opportunity to identify
future areas of cooperation with other DCG members.
The United Nations in Libya formed the DCG in 2008, as a means
of promoting improved coordination of development activities.
Later this year, it is envisaged that the fourth DCG meeting
will be held to discuss the UN’s Country Assessment of Libya.
