Arrival of the new Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator
The
United Nations Development Programme is pleased to announce the
arrival of its new Resident Representative and UN Resident
Coordinator, Ms. Costanza Farina.
Ms. Farina comes to Libya from Geneva, where she held the
position of Secretary of the Council of the UNESCO International
Bureau for Education (IBE.) She began her 25 year-long career
with the United Nations as a Junior Professional Officer working
for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sana?a,
Yemen.
Since then, she has gained experience with a number of UN
organisations, including the International Labour Organisation
(ILO), the United Nations Children?s Fund (UNICEF), the
Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (PAPP) and the
United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees
in the Near East (UNRWA).
From 1998-2006 she worked in Ramallah, first as the coordinator
for ILO, and then as Director of the UNESCO Ramallah Office. She
describes the latter experience as one of the most ?rewarding?
episodes of her career to date.
Ms. Farina holds the distinction, not only of a prestigious and
varied career, but also of being the first UN woman Resident
Coordinator in Libya.
She will be joined in Libya by her husband and two sons.
